Breaking Bad

The show was created by Vince Gilligan, who was a co-creator of The X-Files. Interesting tidbit.
Anyways, I highly recommend this show! Season two is supposed to be even better! Better get on it…

Here is the trailer for Where the Wild Things Are, my most-anticipated film of the year. It looks SO FREAKING INCREDIBLE. Love the mixture of puppets with CGI and live action. Spike Jonze was the perfect choice to capture the vision of the book. And a script co-written by Dave Eggers?? Get outta here, fool! It’s gonna be beautiful.
That song in the trailer is “Wake Up” by Arcade Fire, by the way. They happen to be my favorite band, so that just makes me more excited.
Release date: October 16, 2009!
Just wanted to inform you all about a new website that my pal Jessica started. It’s a blog focusing on health and life. It’s in its early stages and she’s looking for contributors if you enjoy writing about natural foods, remedies, holistic health, exercise, and much more. One of her contributors is my pal (and Jessica’s boyfriend) Dave who just finished eight months of Kundalini yoga training so he’s got some great tips to share. The site is all about enriching your life through intuitive understanding and intellectual illumination. I’m hoping to contribute to it soon, just trying to figure out what angle I’m gonna take!

Living Thing from Swedish indie rock band Peter Bjorn and John is a decent fifth album. PB&J give us a dozen tunes on this album, many of which are surprisingly simplistic in their sound. Some tracks only feature somewhat tribal beats and hand claps. It’s not bad, but I think they could have achieved a little more had they thrown in a few more noises or instruments. The first track, “The Feeling,” is a perfect example of this. “Just the Past” is another example, although it has an echoic, out-of-tune piano that helps the song drift outside the box. The album really takes off with track 4, “Nothing to Worry About.” It’s a feel-good song featuring high-pitched vocals and lots of noise. Love it. I’m also a big fan of the title track, “Living Thing”, which sounds like a walk through the woods. The guitar riff in the song is great. I expect “Lay it Down” to get pretty popular…if only because they drop the f-bomb in the chorus. It’s a good song though, kind of an anti-frat boy song. It’s kind of an anthem for hipster geeks. They kick it old school on “Blue Period Picasso” and “Last Night” with cheesy synths, which helps explain why they are touring with Depeche Mode this summer. The album is dripping with reverb, which can get old quickly, but PB&J tend to use it effectively most of the time. In the end I really think they could have done a lot more with the album had it been a little less minamalist. Peter Bjorn and John are much better when they’re making lots of noise.
