wii fit

this wednesday nintendo is releasing the newest addition to the wii series , wii fit , the first game ever to focus primarily on whipping users into shape. it has been pre-selling faster than french fries from a mcdonald’s drive-thru window. it’s bound to be one of the highest-selling wii titles so far.

so what exactly is wii fit? it’s pretty genius, actually. nintendo has designed a balance board that a player stands on during the game. the board responds to shifts in weight and balance. when you apply such technology to a video game, you get something really awesome.

wii fit offers a variety of aerobic workout games (such as hula hoop, jogging, rhythm boxing and step aerobics), balance games (such as ski jumping, table tilt and tightrope), muscle workouts (such as lunges, push-ups and jackknives), and yoga poses.

the game lets users set up their personal accounts by calculating their BMI and will even set up an exercise plan that will keep track of how much weight you lose over time. yes, it is genius. who would have ever thought that a video game might actually be good for you?

i plan on purchasing the first copy i can get my hands on.

now that it looks like it will be mccain vs. obama in november, people are starting to speculate as to who the candidates will choose as their running mates. here are my speculations:

mccain :: he’s got to decide whether he wants a very conservative politician as his running mate or another moderate like him. lots of people think he will choose mitt romney , who is rather moderate. there is also talk of him choosing condoleezza rice , though my guess is he won’t want any associations with the bush administration. mccain’s decision will be one of the most important decisions he makes for his campaign, as many conservatives have vowed not to support him due to his moderate stance. he’s got to decide if he wants to try to win the independents and some democrats or win the votes of all the conservatives who don’t support him. my guess is he’ll pick a moderate like him.

obama :: nearly 50% of democrats want him to choose hillary clinton as his running mate. while it would definitely help bring the party together, it might hurt his image among his own supporters. i am really hoping he chooses wesley clark , who i supported throughout the 2004 democratic nomination process. i think clark would give obama the edge he needs in areas of military insight and foreign affairs. john edwards is a slight possibility and would help obama win in southern states, but i doubt he would pick him. two other possibilities are bill richardson and jim webb . both would bring different strengths to the obama ticket. richardson would help with the hispanic vote while webb, a former republican who served under reagan, would help with the independent vote (which will be the deciding factor in november). and last but not least is kathleen sebelius , current governor of kansas. i think she would also make a great running mate for obama.

oh, springfield

tonight was one of those nights that makes me really love springfield.

rode my bike from my residence at fremont and sunshine to commercial street (5 miles) to attend the one-year anniversary party of askinosie chocolate . it was loads of fun. got a free chocolate-covered strawberry and some other scrumptious samples of their delicious chocolate. they launched a new white chocolate product that is the best white chocolate i’ve ever tasted.

after this i went to big momma’s on commercial to eat dinner. if you haven’t been there yet, i highly recommend it (try the jacqueline sandwich – it’s 100% yum).

from here, i rode downtown and stopped by bailey’s to hear some kickass local reggae music. i have only been to bailey’s one other time and did not enjoy my experience (i do not recommend ordering food there, but their cocktails are some of the best downtown). tonight changed my opinion of them. or maybe it was just the three long island iced teas that i drank…

after that i rode my bike home. all together i rode just over ten miles tonight, and i feel great. and i saved money on gas!

best of all i got to spend time with great friends. they put up with me and my lame jokes, my awkward statements, and my general nerdiness. and nothing in the world compares to that.

now i’m listening to "patient patient" by the morning benders and thinking how awesome this song is (not to mention this band). seriously. i know my last blog post was entirely dedicated to them, but i can’t recommend them enough. easy-going pop rock that soothes the soul. check it!!
