An Outlook for the Next Few Months
Sorry for the lack of updates lately, but you can expect the same until about May 20. This semester, simply put, is killer. Busy busy busy. I have cut my work hours WAY back and yet I still am going to be struggling to find time to sleep. Not only are all my classes difficult and tons of work, but I also was selected to be the Editor in my short film class. I have two editing assignments to complete before I even start eding the short film we’re working on (I begin editing on that in April). Through February I will be working as the Gaffer on a film directed by a friend of mine. I am also trying to complete a script this week to submit for my short film class, as we are desperately looking for some scripts to produce. On top of this I have a media ethics class which is basically an advanced philosophy course mixed with journalism, media, and political science, a media law class that is very writing instensive, a producing class that will keep me up late many a night working on budgets/schedules/etc., and not to mention I’m still working two jobs. So yeah…BUSY! I am very excited for this semester for the opportunities I have received. One I’d like to point out is a documentary I will be working on this summer for the Carroll Cave project. My dad and brother are avid cavers and my dad recommended me to the filmmaker. While my claustophobia tends to keep me away from caves usually, I am very excited about the project. I’m not quite sure exactly what my role will be just yet, but it’s something that will give me some great field experience as well as serving as an excellent addition to my resume.
Everyone and their brother seems to be asking me what I’m going to do after I graduate. I keep hoping one of them suggests I go into plastics. Where’s my Mrs. Robinson? Seriously though, I don’t know! I’d love to go straight out to L.A. and try to get a job… I’d love to attend graduate school in screenwriting or editing (maybe even AFI!)… I’d love to somehow be able to stay in Springfield and make the kind of money I could make elsewhere… I’d love to spend a year traveling the world… I just don’t know! But I’m young, I’m not married, my debts are relatively small, and I’ve got a lot of ambition. So while I might not be able to say exactly what I’ll be doing in the next six months to a year, I can tell you that I’m not gonna settle for some retail job in some chain electronics store. At least not until I fail miserably and come crawling back to Springfield…but all in good time.
