Song of the Week
I was so tempted all week long to post this as a second song for the week, but somehow I had enough patience to wait until Sunday to post it. Erin gave me a link to this song on Monday and I think it’s a little bitty hint at how good the entire album will be once it is released in September. I am talking, of course, about Ben Kweller’s new CD. I was worried I might not like his new stuff because rumor has it his record company is trying to really push him into the mainstream market, which is proven with the title of the album: Ben Kweller. It makes it sound like it’s his debut album and with the success of indie music in recent years (Death Cab for Cutie, Snow Patrol, The Postal Service), there is a good chance Ben Kweller might be getting huge in the next year or two. I’ll never forget the first song I heard by Kweller, “Sha Sha.” It’s a great little song about being yourself and not caring what other people think of you. I loved it immediately and his voice and style was completely original and refreshing to me and his music helped push me into liking all the indie music I do now. Anyway, his new song is amazing. It’s called “Penny on the Train Track” it’s about taking risks and living on the edge, and while there are some slight mainstream additions to it, it only furthers how good of an artist he is. He still has his alt country sound and while some of his grunge rock has been replaced by pop rock, I still love it. So what are you waiting for? Download it! Listen to it! And then hit me back with some comments to let me know if you liked it or not.
