The Kid and the Knife
Once there was a little kid named Nari. This kid went to school. This school was full of different individuals from all over the world. Some of the kids were rich, others very poor. Some of them carried knives and some of them didn’t. The richest and most popular kid, Sam, carried a big knife with him at all times. This made some of the other kids jealous and others run to Sam for protection. Nari had a bad temper sometimes, but so far he had never tried to start a fight with any of the other kids and he didn’t even have a knife. Well one day Nari decided to start making a knife of his own. He swore he would only be using the knife to cut stuff with to help himself out and never use it as a weapon against any of the other kids. No one believed Nari, with good reason. Nari could be very mean-spirited sometimes and the other kids worried about Nari having a knife. Sam seemed worried most of all and got all the other kids together and started talking about what they could do to keep Nari from making a knife. A lot of them said they should just talk to Nari and figure out ways to let him get by with things without using a knife and ways to help him out if that’s all he really wanted a knife for. Some of the bigger kids, especially Sam, kept talking about how they should just beat Nari up and take the knife he was making and the tools he was using to make it away from him. Some of the other kids tried to object and say talking things out was the best way and simply beating the kid up was the dumbest and most immature thing to do. Sam made fun of these kids and called them sissies. Some of these kids started pointing out that the last time Sam beat up a kid who he thought was making a knife actually ended up not having any knife at all, let alone the tools to make a knife. Sam really hurt this kid and the kid still hasn’t recovered. So of course the other kids were worried about what Sam might do, but they were also worried that Nari might end up using the knife as a weapon. Nari was being very stubborn and did not want to stop making the knife, but mainly because Sam was pushing him around so much. Anytime some of the other kids started talking about ideas that would help Nari out he seemed to listen and at first he even stopped making the knife for a while. But then Sam kept pushing and now Nari was ignoring everyone and Sam started talking about the possibility of beating up Nari. Other kids called Sam’s words ridiculous and some other kids hesitatantly joined Sam’s side but were weary of speaking about beating Nari up. What will become of them all? Will Sam start acting mature and realize talking things out is the best method? Will Nari stop acting immature and stop ignoring the pleas of the other kids?
Even the biggest of issues can be summed up to playground politics.
