Happy Halloween

I think I’ve decided that I’m going to the Halloween Bash tonight. It’s being put on by the MSU Film Series Board and Film Society (sort of). I doubt many people will be there but I have nothing better to do. My friend Nicole and I were considering going to this Halloween ballroom dancing party at Pythian Castle but neither of us are secure enough in our swing and foxtrot steps to be humiliated yet. Instead we’re going to one on November 19. Also – on November 18 there is a murder/mystery dinner show at Pythian Castle we want to go to and we’re trying to get some people to go with us so if you’re interested let me know. Anyway – the Halloween Bash starts at 7:30. Admission is free and there will be free food and drinks and a costume contest. They are screening the great comedy/horror film, Shadow of the Vampire. I’m going as Donnie Darko again. I want to go as a Reservoir Dog but I don’t know if I’ll have enough time to prepare a bloodied white shirt. I don’t think I own a white button-up shirt anyway. It’s an idea for next year though! I think I have decided to keep my hair black because everyone has been commenting on how good it looks or how different it makes me look (in a positive way). I really like it too and so I think I might just keep it.

Ghosts of Springfield, Missouri

Missouri State University – At the Freudenberger House, which is familiarly known as “Freddy” by the students, a female ghost is said to haunt the building. The five-story residence hall houses the Military Science Department as well as playing home to over 700 students. Built in 1859, the hall was named for Norman Freudenberger, professor of Latin for 45 years. According to the legends, the matronly ghost is referred to as the Dorm Mom and seemingly has an interest in the fifth floor, where she is most often glimpsed.

Caleb Darko

Last night was The Moxie’s Halloween costume party/screening of Night of the Living Dead. The classic film was fun to watch – especially at the Moxie! I went as Donnie Darko, as you can see from the picture below. I went all out, for the most part. I dyed my hair black (and yes, it’s permanent until it grows out and I cut it off). I really like my hair black though, so I might keep it. I did not, however, shave off my goatee. I just couldn’t go that far. Anyway, Nicki and I went all over town to Halloween stores trying to find a skeleton shirt that would work for Donnie Darko’s costume. After finally finding one at Party America on Battlefield, we went to Wal-Mart to get a gray zip-up hoodie and black hair dye.

I competed in the costume contest, but lost to a girl who dressed up as Lydia (Winona Ryder) from Beetlejuice. Dan did give me a consolation prize though – actual FILM from some mainstream movie trailers that he wasn’t going to use (The Legend of Zorro, The Fog, and The Da Vinci Code). I’m considering selling them on eBay as he suggested. I think my grandpa has an old 35mm projector though so I might be able to watch them. Anyway, Nicki went as “person with dreadlocks” (maybe Whoopi Goldberg?) and Erin went as Peter Jackson or Michael Moore (she had a long beard, a glasses/nose disguise, and a baseball cap). It was funny. We went to Steak n’ Shake and they asked them to remove their costumes because they were scared of being robbed. Some other people came in with face paint on and got kicked out. I’d say they lost a lot of business that night.

It took us forever just to get to the Moxie because Downtown Springfield had bumper-to-bumper traffic because of the pub crawl. It was crazy down there. Before the show we walked around and the lines for the bars/clubs were unbelievable. It was a lot of fun even to just walk around and I’m so excited for when I’m 21 so I can actually go to a pub crawl. I believe the next one is in March for St. Patty’s though. After the movie got out we had to drive through 1:30am traffic which was horrible since all the bars/clubs close at 1:30. There were so many drunk people. It was hilarious. This one girl was trying to cross the street but was walking in kind of a sideways/backwards angle and stumbling all over the place. Masses of drunk people are funny. What was NOT funny was all those idiots getting in their cars to drive home. Hopefully most of them were designated drivers. Oh, and there was yet another happening at Traffic – as we were driving by we saw a bunch of police cars out front. I think they are in their last days. I had a great night (despite having a killer headache and being sick to my stomach). Hope everyone has a Happy Halloween!

P.S.
I’m applying to work at the Moxie!

P.P.S.
I’m currently designing a new header since my Halloween one will soon be outdated. And who really celebrates Halloween on October 31 anymore anyway?

Japanese IQ Test – Supposedly this is a test given to job applicants in Japan. Click on the big blue button to get started. There are a few rules you must follow:

-Thief can never be left with the family without the cop
-Dad can never be left with girls without Mom
-Mom can never be left with boys without Dad
-Only Dad, Mom, and the Cop can operate the ferry

Movie Credit Explanations – Ever wanted to know what all those odd movie credits (such as Key Grip) were?

Well I got my grade for my short film, “That Dreamboat’s Got My Dog!” today. I got an A-. Yay. I sound so enthusiastic. The A- was because he said we didn’t use a zoom. But we did. So that’s BULL! I was too happy with the grade to fight it though. Ours was the only one he chose to copy to use as a class example for next semester. Sweet. He chose my first project too. A good sign? Hope so. Rambling.

Tomorrow night is the Moxie Halloween Party. If you don’t know, they are showing an original 35mm print of Night of the Living Dead and having a movie character costume contest. I’m either going as Donnie Darko, Hannibal Lecter (if I can find a mask), or going with Nicki as Bob Harris and Charlotte from Lost in Translation. We were also considering going as Bonnie and Clyde. Either way, I just want to do some good Satan-worshipping this weekend. I mean…
