Last night my sister-in-law gave birth at 3:17am. Jeremy Lucas Copeland was 7 pounds, 5 ounces and is 22 inches long. Kristen had to have a c-section after being in labor for three hours, but she is doing good. I could just hear the happiness in her voice when I talked to her. And then I talked to my brother and he sounded very excited too. I am hoping to go see them all this afternoon if I can get off work in the labs (THANK YOU CARA!). I have class from 1:00-3:00 and work from 3:00-7:00. Hopefully someone wouldn’t mind covering a couple hours for me or maybe my boss will just let me leave. Anyway, just wanted to let all my readers know that I’m now an uncle!

I have pictures. Of course I haven’t uploaded them to Flickr yet. But I will link them when I do! Jeremy is the cutest baby! And he doesn’t cry much at all. They said he’s very quiet. I know Zach was a screamer as a baby and Kristen said she was too. Guess he’s taking after his uncle – my mom says I was a very quiet baby.

Check out the trailer for North Country, the newest film from the acclaimed director of Whale Rider, Niki Caro. It stars Charlize Theron, Frances McDormand (reprising her accent from Fargo), Sissy Spacek, and Woody Harrelson. It looks like it will be a great film.

While I scurry about my day in beautiful 80-degree weather in Springfield, Missouri, I can’t help but think of the people stranded on the roof of their homes in Louisianna and Mississippi. The death toll is already over 100 and rescue missions have barely started. Over 80% of New Orleans is flooded. Tens of thousands of homes have been destroyed. 40,000 homes are underwater in the suburbs. Both New Orleans airports are underwater. There are reports of bodies floating down the flooded streets.
