Work has not been fun this weekend. The store has been in shambles since Nicki quit. And Jennifer (my manager) has been on vacation. And so I come into work on Friday and couldn’t believe how much of a mess the store was. It just pisses me off when fellow employees who don’t care about their job don’t DO their job and then I have to pick up the slack to get the store back in order so my manager won’t kill us all when she returns. I worked a nine hour shift on Friday (12 hours when you add in my SMSU hours) and then a 8.5 hour shift on Saturday. Today I felt like crap and all the customers were cranky (it’s common for Sundays). But I did get everything prepped. And felt some level of accomplishment. So tomorrow morning when I go in maybe Jennifer will be grateful (and maybe finally give me my 6-month review and a raise!).

Ok, ’nuff complaining about work for one post. I tried watching Alexander but couldn’t get into it. Even the newly-revamped, Hollywoodized Director’s Cut is boring and not interesting at all. I blame it on Colin Farrell. I can’t stand that actor in anything. But mostly I blame the director, Oliver Stone, for thinking he’s better than he really is at directing movies. However, I did watch the first half of Angels in America from director Mike Nichols (The Graduate, Closer). It was very good and the acting from Al Pacino was the best I’ve ever seen and Meryl Streep and Emma Thompson were amazing as well. The film is six hours long, so I’ll finish it another night. For now, I’m going to bed.

P.S.
I thought I would share something I posted in an IMDB message board concerning a comment about the upcoming film, Romance & Cigarettes…

cantthinkofaID says:
I’m appalled by this movie already. It promotes smoking. Disgusting. I will NOT be seeing this.

And my response to this idiot’s comment:

Oh I hear you. I refuse to watch Star Wars because it promotes war and space travel, Fight Club because it promotes fighting, To Kill a Mockingbird because it promotes animal cruelty, Singin’ in the Rain because it promotes activity that could lead to the catching of a cold, Pirates of the Caribbean because it promotes piracy, Raging Bull because it promotes rage, Kill Bill because it promotes murder, Finding Neverland because it promotes Michael Jackson, The Grapes of Wrath because it promotes criminal fruits, The Wizard of Oz because it promotes witchcraft, Sin City because it promotes, well, sin!

I could go on and on!!! Or I could get a life and not freak out and not see a movie just because of a negative word or unhealthy habit is associated with the title of a movie.

March of the Penguins

penguins

Last night Stephanie and I went to see March of the Penguins. I am very happy Campbell 16 got their hands on a copy and even more happy at the success of the little documentary that could. And what a great documentary it was. Those penguins are tough little creatures, I tell you what! (Who came up with the phrase “I tell you what?” It makes no sense in written language but sounds perfect in Missouri English.) Anyway, it was very beautifully-filmed and Morgan Freeman did an excellent job narrating. Most audiences will actually learn something about penguins by watching this film, and it is great for people of all ages. It doesn’t drag on and the penguins give us their own form of entertainment – from romance (the penguin sex scene is hot stuff!) to horror (the filmmaker did not shy away at all from the harsh nature of Antartica and the casualties of living in the habitat) to suspense (who knew feeding a baby was such a challenge?), this film has it all and has a very profound message about life to top it all off. Definitely a must-see of the year, and definitely worthy of Oscar nods for its genre.

Afterwards we went downtown to Trolley’s for dinner. I got the Chicken Al Capone and I highly recommend it. We actually got service this time! Although it was pretty lame service, but at least our waitress came to ask us our order this time!

Oh, check out my Mr. Picassohead I made with a link from Erin. You can view hers here. Mine’s better, don’t you think? Yeah, I thought so too. ;-)

This weekend I am working 35 hours (well Fri-Mon, which is my weekend). So basically I most likely won’t be updating my blog. But have no fear! I shall return!

P.S.
Don’t you just love my header picture? Thanks goes to stock.xchng!

New Blog

Hello everyone! I’m finally back. I have temporarily given up on trying to get my old posts onto this one. I’m too stupid with servers and trying to update my SQL files and all that. I don’t really care about losing my old posts so it’s not a big deal. However, I am going to try to get my movie reviews over to my new server. But I’m saving that for another day.

In other news, Stephanie’s blog has been shut down and she currently does not want to start a new one. Once school starts she may change her mind, but if you’re having trouble finding her blog – that’s why.

When I’m all done, you should be able to go to www.calebcopeland.com to find my blog and www.justlikeinamovie.com to find my movie reviews. Sometime in the future I plan on having my main website at this domain and then link to both blogs and have my pictures and short films hosted. But until then I’ve got to learn a little PHP and CSS to make my sites purdy.

I’m sure you all have greatly missed my posts in the last few days but I’m back and ready for action (no, not that kind of action). So to all my loyal readers: change your links and bookmarks and break out the cannoli because this party is just getting started!

P.S.
My header picture will be changing very soon. The leaves aren’t quite that color yet (unless they were burned to a crisp from this damn heat!)
