Woman President: Rice or Clinton?

Here goes my first political post on this blog. Sorry if I offend any of you, but we all have a right to our opinion and so I’m sharing mine. I consider myself a left-leaning Independent who really despises Bush, if you didn’t already know.

In a poll conducted in February, 42% of voters said Condoleeza Rice should run for the White House. The survey, conducted by the Siena College Research Institute, found that 81 percent of people would vote for a woman for president; 53% thought Sen. Hillary Clinton should try for the job.

This is refreshing news. Why? Because if the Democrats do end up nominating Clinton for the presidential bid, there is a small chance that she would be up against another woman. I personally have no problem with a female President, in fact I think America is ready for one. While I believe both Clinton and Rice would have the guts to stand up to our enemies if need be, I think that Clinton would do a much better job at promoting peace and equality and also helping working Americans instead of only caring about the richest ones (and after everything Rice has laid out on the table in her discussions with Congress there is no way I would vote for her). Most likely it’s going to be John McCain who gets the Republican nomination in 2008, and he’s a moderate so that’s not bad, but he could always change his moderate stances to get more votes from the far right. And other than Clinton, John Edwards is probably the second most popular choice for the Democrats, which would be a better choice than Clinton, I believe.

In all honesty, I think conservative America is too afraid of having another Clinton in the White House, especially one as liberal as Hillary. And I don’t know if she would have the support of the Independents to win. So I don’t think they should pick her. And quite frankly, if we don’t get a Democrat in the White House in 2008, our country is going to be in serious trouble. I would REALLY like to see Sen. Barack Obama run (check out his keynote address from the 2004 DNC), but he has already said he would not be running in 2008. He believes in America so much and he would make an amazing leader, and he promotes bi-partisanship a lot, which is what this country needs in both the Executive and Legislative branches of our government right now. However, John McCain is also fairly bi-partisan, or at least claims to be, and so if we do end up with him then that would be good too as long as he doesn’t get bought by the neo-cons. We just don’t need any more Bush’s in the White House. Ever.
